בְּרֵאשִׁית In בָּרָא the אֱלֹהִים beginning אֵת God הַשָּׁמַיִם created וְאֵת the הָאָרֶץ׃ heaven and the earth.

וְהָאָרֶץ And הָיְתָה the תֹהוּ earth וָבֹהוּ was וְחֹשֶׁךְ without עַל־פְּנֵי form, תְהוֹם and וְרוּחַ void; אֱלֹהִים and מְרַחֶפֶת darkness עַל־פְּנֵי was הַמָּיִם׃ upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

וַיֹּאמֶר And אֱלֹהִים God יְהִי said, אוֹר Let וַיְהִי־אוֹר׃ there be light: and there was light.

וַיַּרְא And אֱלֹהִים God אֶת־הָאוֹר saw כִּי־טוֹב the וַיַּבְדֵּל light, אֱלֹהִים that בֵּין it הָאוֹר was וּבֵין good: הַחֹשֶׁךְ׃ and God divided the light from the darkness.

וַיִּקְרָא And אֱלֹהִים God ׀ called לָאוֹר the יוֹם light וְלַחֹשֶׁךְ Day, קָרָא and לָיְלָה the וַיְהִי־עֶרֶב darkness וַיְהִי־בֹקֶר he יוֹם called אֶחָד׃ Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
